Community Safety Month
Safety affects all parts of our lives. We can make our homes, workplaces, streets, neighbourhoods and communities safer by participating in our community.
What is community safety?
Community Safety encompasses perceptions of safety as well as actual safety in a range of different environments.
It includes health and wellbeing components as well as practical approaches to change - all of which aim to improve the lives of our Maroondah community.
Maroondah City Council will facilitate a variety of activities throughout the month of October to raise awareness of the importance of safety in all aspects of our lives.
Community Safety Month activities
1 – 7 OctoberNatural surveillance of areas – ‘eyes on the street’ - helps to minimise the opportunity for crime and thus creates safer, more accessible and liveable places that encourages community participation.
8 – 15 OctoberPhysical activity and community engagement promotes a healthy lifestyle and healthier ageing thus increasing personal safety around both the home and the community.
16 – 23 OctoberYour behaviour impacts on everyone around you, lead the way and create a safe living environment by being aware of those around you and supporting those who need help.
Awareness and action of safe practices in the workplace is everyone’s responsibility – the more we look out for ourselves and our workmates the better our working environment will be.
