Croydon Pedestrian Priority Plan

In July 2006, Council adopted the Croydon Town Centre Structure Plan.  This strategy sets out a vision of a vibrant Town Centre in which people are drawn to shop, eat, relax and conduct business.  A key element in achieving this vision will be the provision of a comfortable, convivial and safe street environment that encourages walking throughout the centre.

As a result of the Croydon Town Centre Structure Plan’s vision for a pedestrian friendly Town Centre, Maroondah City Council has developed the Croydon Pedestrian Priority Plan to guide how this vision will be accomplished.  This plan, which was adopted by Council in August 2009, has been the result of community and stakeholder consultation and includes a comprehensive Disability Discrimination Act audit of the existing pedestrian network in the Croydon Town Centre.

The plan has amalgamated the actions contained in the Croydon Town Centre Structure Plan with initiatives from other Council’s policies and strategies, to produce one concise document that addresses all the existing pedestrian barriers within the Croydon Town Centre.  It has identified the pedestrian priorities for the Town Centre and provides Council with a clear direction on how to proceed to produce a safe, integrated pedestrian network for the Croydon Town Centre.
