Head Lice
While children are at school or in any other group situation, many families will have contact with head lice. Treatment lotions are available from chemists and some types can also be found in supermarkets.

Council Services
Inspections - Schools and child care centres are welcome to contact Council to arrange for a registered nurse to visit and inspect the children so that all the children who have head lice can start treatment at the same time. This service is a user pays service.
Parents are welcome to telephone 1300 88 22 33 and arrange an appointment to bring their child to visit Council's Public Health Unit at Civic Square Croydon so that we can give you individual advice.
Remember...
Whether you call them lice, nits or pediculosis, it makes no difference in their choice of hosts. Regular inspection of school children's heads is the most reliable method of controlling head lice Infestation. Head lice are a community problem, which can be minimised only if everyone takes responsibility. Even if you apply the correct lotion, unless all nits (eggs) are removed, you cannot guarantee that all the eggs have been killed.
