Celebrating 100 years of a local icon
A month-long celebration to mark Croydon Hall’s 100th anniversary will kick off with a Children’s Week concert on-site on Wednesday 28 October.
The month will feature an array of events examining the history of this Croydon icon in addition to a showcase of the hall’s contemporary use as EV’s Youth Centre during a battle of the bands gig.
Mayor of Maroondah, Cr Peter Gurr, said Croydon Hall was a place of many fond memories for the local community.
“The Croydon Hall building has seen many uses over the years - it’s been a place of education, a picture theatre and even an immunisation centre,” Cr Gurr said.
“Today the century-old building is known as EV’s Youth Centre and serves well as a popular entertainment and support facility for young people,” Cr Gurr said.
First opened as the Croydon Mechanics Institute on 29 October 1909, the building has seen several uses and name changes over the years including Croydon Hall, the Croydon Entertainment Centre, and now EV’s Youth Centre.
