New name proposed for Croydon access road

The community is invited to provide feedback on the proposed naming of the access road to Dorset Recreation Reserve in Croydon.

Councillor Paul Macdonald said the road, informally known as Evans Lane, would be named Jenkins Lane pending the outcome of community consultation.

“Following discussions with the Croydon Historical Society, Council proposes to name the access road Jenkins Lane in commemoration of the first non-indigenous settler in the area,” Cr Macdonald said.

“Peter and Robert Jenkins purchased the land in question in 1861. Peter and his wife, Ann, actually had the first European-descended children to be born in Croydon,” Cr Macdonald said.

“The access road provides vehicular access to seven properties and acts as the secondary vehicle access point to the Remington Estate and Dorset Recreation Reserve,” Cr Macdonald said.

“The naming of the access road will assist residents, visitors and emergency services to locate abutting properties more easily,” Cr Macdonald said.

It is expected a public notice will be placed in relevant media in early November inviting submissions on the proposal over a 28-day period. For information on how to make a submission, phone Council on 1300 88 22 33.
